George McClellan
Autograph Letter Signed. Two pages, 4.5" x 7.5" (sight); 5th
Avenue Hotel; December 31, 1862. A letter Augustus Schell regarding
the case of Justus McKinstry. In part: "I return herewith the

I have sent for some papers from... that will .... them some light
on the case... I should have seen you before but have been in almost
daily expectation of going to Washington ... on my return I will at
once inform you & appoint an hour for an interview..."
Justus McKinstry
served as US Army Quartermaster at St. Louis from July to
November 1861, at which time he was dismissed and brought up on
charges of fraud and his Court Martial took place in October 1862.
He was dismissed from the army in 1863, so the papers referred in
this letter are likely the transcripts from his court martial.
Matted and framed to an overall size of 19" x 18.75". The letter appears
to be mounted with Mylar corner
