John F. Reynolds (1820-63) Union Major General
After capture and exchange while serving in the
Peninsula Campaign, Reynolds saw action from Second Manassas through
Gettysburg with the Army of the Potomac. He was
killed-in-action on July 1, 1863 while leading his troops to the aid
of John Buford's cavalry in the opening action of the battle of
Gettysburg.
