Autograph Document Signed
(1736-1799) American Revolutionary leader,
with Jefferson and Lee initiated the Committee of Correspondence,
member of the Continental Congress, remembered for his famous quote
"Give me liberty, or give me death!
Rare war-date Autograph Document Signed , 1p. 16 mo., dated June
3, 1777, in full:
"Received One hundred and Ten Pounds being the Balance of my
Salary due the 29th March last for the third Quarterly Payment P.
Henry".
Text is light but legible with the signature being strong, some glue
show-through from verso with a corner chip reattached; overall good.
On the verso appears a receipt from the same date for one pound, 18
shillings: "...for the use of Paul Washington for Boarding three
Prisoners of War...". Signed by one William Cowper.
During the war, Henry served as a first post-colonial Governor
of Virginia, from 1776-79, an office he held again from 1784-86.
Here he received his pay.
Conservation framed with engraving so that both sides can be seen.
