In full:
"Your letter of 8th inst. is duly received.
I am not free at present to make such an engagement as you propose
on behalf of "John A. Andrew" Post G.A.R. Possibly I might
later on undertake to deliver a lecture in Boston, next winter but
right now I can't promise to do so.
